DESCRIPTION OF ITEM This is mint unused sculptural puzzle (toy) you can snap the ends together or not. from Hai Tai Intl inc. very cool, made of plastic, the box is undated but this was purchased on 12-24-1984 (as written on the inside top lid) VERY COOL, one of the white plastic ends has a bit of blue color in it, in the marble field this would be called an end of day, as they were changing the color in the mold, so a bit of blue is in the white on one end, VERY RARE. but you may not care. THIS IS A VERY SCARCE TOY. how do you know when this was purchased, you ask, or perhaps who cares is your response. but i know when this was purchased because the original owner of this toy was none other than Kennett Neily. who is he you ask, or you have moved on and bid or purchased this thing, but if you are still reading he was the man in the story below who sold the famous “White Mountain Collection” of silver age comic books, and those books are known to have his date stamp, from when the item was purchased (on the second page), well he did that on just about everything he bought, and you will probably find the date stamp or the date written somewhere on this toy (often on the old price tag). In 1984 a man approached Jerry Weist, owner of “The Million Year Picnic” comic shop in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with a small sampling of comics from his collection. This intial meeting was the hobby’s introduction to what is now referred to as the White Mountain Collection. Few collections of Silver Age books approach the consistently high level of condition and page quality that White Mountain copies possess. Weist would eventually become the organizer for Sotheby’s comic book and comic art auctions. In that capacity, he introduced the collecting world to this fabulous discovery, offering choice samplings in Sotheby’s 1991, 1993 and 1996 auctions. Many collectors are still not aware that the collection’s large body of Silver Age publications also included a small sampling of choice, early Underground Comix. It should also be said that most collectors have yet to grasp the significance of that inclusion. For most Silver Age collectors, the UG’s are the forgotten books of the period, and this is a serious omission on their part. Even more amazing is his unknown collection of science fiction books (see my other items) and some toys (see this and other items).
